Cairns Hockey Governance

Cairns Hockey aims to be Australia’s best hockey region. Our volunteer Board Members and Committee members, the direction, plans and programs Cairns Hockey is taking, as well as the history of where we came from and the strategic planning to direct us into the future.

Cairns Hockey Board

The Cairns Hockey Board comprises five members and has a history of being one of the best gender balanced boards throughout its history, with currently three women and two men making up the members. Amongst the specialist skill sets on the board are people with experience in finance, human resources, education, small business and management.

Officiating Advisory Group

The Officiating Advisory Group (OAG) will work together to advise and support the successful running of the Competition in the officiating space from Juniors – Masters  and comprises of:

  • CHA RCD or Competitions Officer
  • Competition Support – 5 members; 1 from each club and 1 independant. 2025 members:
    • Brothers - Nigel Giacomi
    • Saints - Mel Craig
    • Souths - Karen Fry
    • Trinity Stingers - Cath Reiha
    • Michael Barton
    • OAG roles:
      1. Umpire and Technical Official allocations.
      2. CHA Competition Officiating rules and their implementation.
      3. Implementation of officiating mentoring and learning programs.

Pathways Advisory Group

The CHA Pathway Advisory Group (PAG) comprises of:

  • CHA RCD
  • Officiating Development Pathway (1 member)
  • Player (including Representative) Development, Coach Development, and Academy Development (4 members, one from each club).The PAG provides advice and recommendations to the CHA operations team and the board on development and pathways accross players, coaches and officiating.

          Competitions Advisory Group

          The Competition Advisory Group (CAG)  works together to advise and provide support to the successful running the the Winter Season Competition from Juniors - Masters. The group is comprised of:

          • CHA Competition Officer
          • Competition Support – 4 members, one from each club. 2025 club representatives:
            • Brothers - Damian Agius
            • Saints - Jennifer Shannon
            • Souths - Cheryl Overlack
            • Trinity Stingers - Barbie Simonis

          Junior Advisory Group

          Junior Advisory Group (JAG) comprises of:

          • CHA RCD
          • Junior Competition Suppurt (JCO's) - 4 members, one from each club to advise and support the successful running of junior competitions, including the Hockey Hero Hookin2Hockey Program.  2025 representatives:
            • Brothers - Nikki Apps
            • Saints - Teagan Slatcher and Dan Carlsen
            • Souths - Thea Lazarus-Kelly
            • Trinity Stingers - Cassie Goodhew

           

          Want to get involved?

          There are a substantial number of roles to be filled within a Hockey Club or Association. The majority of these roles are done on a voluntary basis by committed and passionate people who are proud to be involved in the sport of hockey at all levels.
